"From the beginning, the philosophy behind the raised beds was to create a place for our Chefs to experiment with different vegetables, fruits, and herbs," says Farm Agricultural Director Christina Albert.

From the moment you enter Beach Plum Farm, you'll notice at least a few in-house residents: our free-range chickens. Some stay behind their fence, and some peep out from behind the garden beds, but all are a part of the backdrop at the farm. A sustainable and fowl-friendly poultry program is at the heart of our operation at Beach Plum Farm—and now, we invite you to learn the basics of raising chickens in your own back yard.

Come immerse yourself in our world, guided by Beach Plum Farm’s Livestock Manager Andrew Halbruner on all the ins and outs of properly caring for chickens. The capstone project during your getaway will be to build a beautiful Amish-designed wooden chicken coop with your fellow Rooted guests, with expert instruction every step of the way. Throughout your getaway, our Farm Team will provide lessons on the basics of how to raise hens for eggs, how to properly feed and care for chickens, how to protect your flock, and more! Authentic and informative, these Rooted escapes promise enrichment and connection with the earth, as well as a fun and memorable experience for your entire group.
