Since opening as The Sag Harbor Motel and Inn in 1958, Baron’s Cove has played host to many notable guests including Sag Harbor’s most celebrated author, John Steinbeck. He visited Baron’s Cove frequently throughout the late 50’s and early 60’s, often visiting with his wife Elaine. The couple named the bar among their favorite spots in the village. To this day, we still make Steinbeck's favorite cocktail, the “Jack Rose.” History is part of our DNA, and in honor of John Steinbeck, we want to offer you the chance to go back in time with us.
Join us Memorial Day or Labor Day weekends for a chance to visit John and Elaine Steinbeck’s home, purchased by the writer in 1955, and now a writer’s retreat. Steinbeck lived in Sag Harbor when he received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1962. The home features 550 feet of waterfront with his personally-designed writing cottage perched by the water. After visiting the authors’ Sag Harbor home, you can wander to the John Steinbeck Waterfront Park, which is within easy walking distance from Baron’s Cove.
